More Dipolognons are realizing that the digital age is not simply a fad that sweeps in much like one in the fashion world – it is real and is here to stay, as the modern world becomes more and more sophisticated and entrenched in our daily lives. Even if Dipolog is just a small city with only more than 13 thousand hectares land area and about one hundred thousand more or less in population, its residents have learned to adapt to the modern needs of the technological world. Things were made possible especially in the Information Technology Industry (IT) sector of the city because of the unity of the people aside from their being very open-minded and their willingness to gain more knowledge. Of course this is also made achievable through the Local Government of Dipolog who extended its untiring support to its people by conducting information drive campaigns in its 21 barangays. The present administration has been very enthusiastic in its projects of the different sectors in the society particularly in the field of education and being consistent in upgrading and updating of the curricula for the great possibility that all educational institutions in the city can be at par with those in other cities in the Philippines as well in other countries. Dipolognons, aside from their being computer literate, learned to use the Internet in their queries and research and even get to chat with their relatives and friends in foreign countries. With the development of the modernization of education institutions of the city headed IT schools such as Systems Technology Institute (STI-Dipolog) and the Dipolog Computer Systems, Incorporated (DCSI) that specializes in information technology education, the effectivity of such technology is hasten and therefore benefits the city as a whole.
Almost all offices of the government and private establishments are using computers and fax machines for more efficient and effective service to their clients. Some of the households also owned computers for fast and easy access for their children’s homework and research studies. Aside from that, almost every family owns cellular phones and even camera enabled handsets. Unbelievable but it is true that even elementary grade pupils are already bringing cellular phones in school today.
It is very obvious that Dipolog City has gone far in the matter of high technology and today, techno-hungry Dipolognons are hard to please and demand for more.
Now there are three cable television providers operating in the city and these include, Orient Cable Company, Fil-Products Cable Television and the Dream Broadcasting System which is the first to offer digital TV broadcasting via satellite in the country. It’s a very modern and is considered high-technology made simple because it surpasses cable in popularity abroad. All it takes is a satellite dish that you can set up right in your home and a decoder. Altogether, these companies can offer access to more than 70 channels that are really of big help especially in the much needed information age and let people know just about everything and anything that is going on around the world 24 hours a day.
Information Technology is recognized as an important tool in teaching and upgrading the skills of the city’s future leaders and created a tremendous impact not just on peoples lives but ultimately in the entire Dipolognon community as well. |
