YEBES GIVES GREEN
LIGHT FOR MANGO PROCESSING PLANT |
|
|
|
governor
Rolando Yebes assured the Board of Directors of the
Zamboanga del Norte Food Industries, Inc., the P25-Million
corporation operating the Multi-Fruit Processing Plant at
the Provincial Agri-Industrial Center in Irasan, Pres.
Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte, of the full support of the
Provincial Government.
Yebes made the assurance after
the corporation’s board sought an audience to update the
new provincial administration on the status and prospects
of the firm. The provincial government is among the major
stockholders of the corporation with investments amounting
to P5.8 Million in the form of land, buildings, equipment
and machineries.

Zamboanga del
Norte Governor Rolando Yebes |
“Aside from manufacturing
bottled sardines, mango growing is another focus industry
of our province and I would like to further develop it. I
have included in my administration’s agenda the
development of these industries in our province,” Yebes
said.
Edwin Capili, President of the
ZDN Food Industries, guaranteed that the support of the
provincial would be worthwhile since the corporation was
established with a vision parallel to that of the
government which is to help uplift the lives not just of
the people in the mango industry but of the greater number
of people in the province.
Meanwhile, the company’s board
of directors has requested the Provincial Governor to
affect the immediate transfer of the machineries and
building to the corporation in order to commence the
production of mango puree, the chief product of the
processing plant.
In a related development,
Yebes accepted the invitation of the corporation to
fill-up the board seat reserved to the provincial
government as major stockholder.
Also present at the meeting
were representatives from the Land Bank of the
Philippines, also a major stockholder with P6 Million
investment through its ACCESS financing program, and
representatives from the farmers’ cooperatives and the
private sector which holds a combined investment of P12.5
Million.
The ZDN Food Industries is a
stock corporation registered with the Securities and
Exchange Commission with an authorized capital stock of
P25 Million with shares being sold at P100 per value.
Inaugurated last April 2004, the Multi-Fruit Processing
Plant in PAIC is a partnership project of the corporation
composed of the Provincial Government, Land Bank, farmers’
cooperatives and the Private sector. |

New Nandau Editorial
working together for our
people’s welfare |
|
 |
|
It is not unusual really to
see our local political chieftains working closely and
collaboratively with our Provincial Chief Executive. This
is what was shown during the Provincial Development
Council meeting held last Friday, the 9th,
where the new governor, Rolando E. Yebes, was fully
supported by the chief executives of all his province’s
municipalities, except one city. Also, visibly working
closely with Gov. Yebes was Hon. Ric Mejorada of the
province’s legislative chamber who reminded the former of
the beauty of parliamentary procedures the new governor
mastered a long, long time before.
Now, the controversial PDC
Resolution No. 6 of a political has been, Gani Amatong,
was thrown out as trash for good, paving the way for the
passage of the much-awaited 2004 Budget of the Province.
To show his support and sincerest commitments, the new
governor gave each municipality, except three, a million
pesos each as development assistance fund where a mayor
can have a say of what development projects would be
funded out of this fund.
By his gestures and for the
welfare of their people, the mayors, once again,
manifested their all out support and cooperation to Gov.
Yebes and his administration and for the welfare of the
people, Gov. Yebes did not forget politicking by selecting
only those municipalities, where he won in the election,
worthy of such fund. They just did all that historic, yet
heroic political gestures... all for the welfare of their
people.
Of course, this is not
unusual. But, what becomes unusual then is when our
Provincial Chief Executive is forsaken by his local
political chieftains out of his greed and conceit. This
happened lately in our province’s political history. (NUC)

CHAFF
& GRAIN
By Alan D. Marapao
brand new tests |
|
 |
In the days before the
election we all heard over the airlines that our Coast
Guard at the Pulauan Wharf led by Ricardo Alivio had
“effectively stopped” the transport of pebbles coming from
the southern towns notably the Tipan Pebbles from the
Kalawit and Gutalac areas. There were charges, of course,
that Alivio did it as a “political favor” for the
Jalosjoses after it was “bruited’ that the pebble
shipments were controlled by families identified to be
with then Congressman Angel Carloto. It was even admitted
that there was an effort by Carloto to “dislodge” the
Coast Guard chief but such was thwarted by the “timely
intercession” of Congressman Cely Jalosjos-Carreon.
Shortly thereafter, the shipment trickled as the shippers
“transferred” their shipping point from the Pulauan Wharf
to that of the more “accommodating ports” like Ozamis and
that of Oroquieta.
o0o
We thought we saw the end of
the issue, until last Saturday when we saw the BFAR Chief
and yes, Mr. Alivio, himself being interviewed on GMA
Channel 7 in that “Imbestigador” segment about how rampant
the “illegal pebble extraction” business is conducted at
Tipan right under the very noses of the local officials.
BFAR Chief Malcolm Sarmiento, brother to the newly
appointed Provincial Attorney was caught on TV calling
Lando Yebes and telling him that the extraction is illegal
and he should do something about it. Apparently, Malcolm
never heard about the “Tipan Mess” until the TV crew
showed him the footage! Sadly, for the Yebes
Administration, it shall be on their hands that the bomb I
call now as the Tipan mess shall explode on their faces.
Of course, Yebes apologists in the media are trying to
blame Amatong for the mess. Not so fast! In fairness to
Amatong, I covered the Tipan Mess long before he became
the governor again in the 98. As early as 1995, the mess
already costed four heads at the Capitol, no thanks to the
expose made by this paper. First to roll was the head of
this newly-appointed executive assistant of Yebes. Dalman
reportedly “took him off” the Capitol after Butch Galicia
who was also executive assistant to Brogs “confirmed” that
a “Cinco-cinco kada sako kotongan” was going on at Tipan.
Next came the head of Butch Galicia himself who was “taken
out” from the PEDO, after dalman realized that he threw a
turtle into the sea in the process. Both Butch and Brogs
are now, of course, political “has-beens”
o0o
My friend who took over the
mess during Amatong’s time was also taken off after it was
learned that his house at Victoria Country Homes then was
“finished” with no less than the “majestic Tipan Pebbles”!
The mess at Tipan shall continue to claim heads, and it
will be higher heads, I shall now declare. Even Yebes’
head if he does not make the best judgment there! This
will be the acid test for the Yebes administration to show
us that he is worth his managerial salt in pounds as he
claims in the campaign. This will also be the test for
Alivio if he can continue to “apprehend” these now clearly
“illegal shipment”. A test for the Provincial Attorney and
his brother at the BFAR, and if I shall be a less kind, I
shall say that a Pandora’s Box was opened in Tipan and
only God knows how close its lid! (Tingog Peninsula, Vol.
IX No. 36)
